8 Reasons I WON'T Visit Your Blog

I recently did a post called 8 Reasons I Visit Your Blog, so I thought I'd do a little opposing post to talk about the things that make me not want to visit your blog (or not return once I have visited).  These are my own personal reasons, and may not reflect the masses.  Thanks to Meg Ryan for helping me illustrate.

1. Automated music or sound effects. I seriously hate this. Most of the time, I won't realize my volume is turned way up, and I open a blog and *BAM* I'm blasted with some random music or other noise, and I basically pee my pants and click on five hundred things in my frantic attempt to close the window. If you have this, I will not be returning (sorry)!

CRINGE!

2. You're a jerk. Listen, I'm all about the snark. One of my favorite book blogs is Cuddlebuggery.com, and Steph, Kat & Meg have perfected the snarkasm. I'm talking about just flat out being a tool. If you spend your time looking for reasons to jump down anyone and everyone's throat, or you're just waiting on people to screw up or say the wrong thing, I just don't even have time for that. See ya (not sorry)!

3. Your blog is too cluttered. I get that everyone has different tastes, and this is totally a personality thing, but my brain just can't handle five thousand and seven different colors and patterns happening at the same time. It makes me stabby.

4. You misspell a ton of words on a regular basis, or your grammar is terrible. I'm not overly picky about this (I don't think). I mean, I don't keep my posts completely proper, and everyone makes mistakes (I probably have in this post (like possibly using too many parenthesis (but at least I said "too many" and not "to many."))), but if your post is filled with mistakes, it just looks like you didn't care enough to even use spell-check.

5. Your posts are almost all made up of memes or blog tours. Again, this is personal preference, but I'm just not interested in reading those types of things over and over. I'd rather read a blog that only posted once a week with something original than one that posts daily memes or tours etc. I'm just like, "Hello?  Is this it??"

6. All your sidebar pics or ads are hanging off your sidebar. Ok, I know I'm being nit-picky here, but when you do that, it just . . .

7. You are entirely too loquacious or sesquipedalian. If your blog is replete with a copious magnitude of superfluous, discursive ruminations, then I am inclined to expeditiously dematerialize, never to return.

Uh . . . what?

8. Your posts are all geared toward your blogging friends. Don't get me wrong, I think it's awesome that bloggers have made such good friends (I know I have), and they all visit each other's blogs, and know all the inside jokes. But if I'm not part of it, I don't get it, and it just makes me feel left out. I'm not saying you shouldn't, I'm just saying I probably won't be sticking around.

These are just a few of my pet peeves when it comes to blogs (they might be a tad exaggerated), and just because something bugs me doesn't mean it's the same for everyone, or even most people. What are the things that keep you from returning to a blog? I hope it's not excessive gif usage, or I may be in trouble . . .
P.S. All these gifs, pics and videos are from French Kiss, which is an older movie, but so cute, and so completely quotable! You should check it out

  2. Can I just say, GREAT movie choice for the visuals. Also, I agree with most of these. Especially the grammar one. Yeah, everyone makes mistakes and has different text voices, but come on. How can I trust your review of a book if you can't even use the appropriate their* they're* or there? Thanks for an interesting post! :)

    1. Haha, thanks, I LOVE French Kiss!! And yeah, I'm such a grammar snob! :P

  3. Number 4 and 5 are big reasons why I don't visit blogs. It really irritates me when people who are promoting reading have a ton of grammar or spelling errors. Not one or two that can be forgiven as typos, but all the time, common mistakes. And to me, book blogging should be about reviewing books. If you have only memes and tours, and haven't read any books, I don't get the point. I also don't like when there are a ton of posts each day. I think one or two a day is plenty. I'm pretty sure I don't do any of what you've listed, so yay for me! Now off to read your top 8 reasons for reading a blog.

    1. Yeah, I'm with you on the tons of posts thing. Usually if there are a bunch in one day, it means they're just basically advertising.

  4. You know what I hate? When a blogger is absolutely obsessed with a series I just don't get. I'm like, "Why am I even here?"

    .... Oh. Wait ....

  5. Honestly my BIGGEST pet peeve is when you can't read what is actually being blogged about. Whether it is terrible font, a color choice or a background. How am I supposed to read a blog that is yellow with grey writing? Makes me crazy!

Love both of these posts by the way!

    1. Oh yeah!! I should've included that. I think about that all the time on this blog. I hope you can read it well!

    2. I promise your blog is very readable. I can see all the things. :-)

  7. Mwahahaha number 7!

My biggest pet peeve is music! Love the list, Andye! :)

  8. Hehehe I love this post, especially number 7! I couldn't stop laughing! I hope I don't do any of the above. I do participate in a lot of memes but I also posts reviews and sometimes discussions (although they're more like my personal rants) so hopefully I don't fall under number 5. My biggest pet peeve is probably number 4. I'm obsessive over grammar and spelling mistakes. Although I haven't really come across any blog that's really that bad. I try to check over all my posts but I think some do slip pass :( Thanks for both of these fun posts!!

    1. I don't think there's anything wrong with memes. I think they've actually really helped build the community and connect people. The problem comes when that's all a blog ever posts. It just gets boring, especially when 20 other blogs are posting the same exact thing. I think "book blasts" can be even more annoying (even though I sometimes participate).

Yeah, I know I'll have spelling/grammar mistakes every once in awhile, but I definitely proofread everything I put out there, and at least attempt to keep everything on the up and up.

      Thanks for your comment! :D

  9. Do people still put music on their blogs? A definite no-no to me, too. Cluttered drives me insane, too. Love how clean and easy to navigate yours is.

    1. YES! I just stumbled onto one the other day which actually was what made me think of this post! haha

Thank you! I'm always decluttering, but nervous it's unappealing, so that's good to hear! :D

  10. Ahh! I love your list. Numbers 3, 6 and 7 are my favorite. I think a couple of my biggest turn offs are excessive clutter (like a bunch of images which takes the page so long to load) and to many memes. Maybe once or twice a week is okay but one almost everyday is just too much.

    1. Haha, so, like my post? :P

I know what you mean, though. If you have a million pics and gifs it can take a really long time for a page to load. I've also noticed it can be really distracting.

      Thanks for stopping by! :D

    2. Actually, no.
In a post (like yours above) I don't mind them but all cluttered on the sidebars is what bothers me. I use gifs in my posts sometimes too.

      Your welcome! :) - Beckie

  11. I like how you did this series of posts :) YES!!!!!!! on the first one - stop with the auto music crap. I also don't visit blogs that only do memes and tours. Give me something unique to read, please? Sharing this :)

  12. I'm with you! The music makes blogs slower and when they finally loads, it scares the crap out of me!

I also don't enjoy a lot of cursing. I feel like I'm listening to a stand up comedian and listening to a bunch of *beeps*. If you cannot convey your ideas without including one curse word for every three, then it's not a blog for me.

    1. I agree about the cursing. I mean, everyone can do what they want, obviously, but I don't care for it if it's excessive.

  13. Ok, I agree, I agree, I agree! Even with the bit about the French Kiss movie! It's an adorable oldie but goodie!

  14. I love love LOVE that all the images and gifs in this are from French Kiss! I had to go back and scroll through. I'm completely guilty of being a blog of mostly meme and blog tours, and I hear you. But then I say bite me, because it's... life. It's that sometimes (most of the time recently) or stop blogging, and I'm not ready to do that yet! (In my defense, I now have 3 blogs). Love this post!

    1. Hahahaha, "bite me!" I love it! Yay you for doing what works for you!! :D I actually had a period of time where I had to take a break and I had mostly tours, guest posts, interviews, etc. So I know what you're saying. :D

      FRENCH KISS!!!

  15. HAH! I love this post sweetie. <3 Thank you so much for writing and sharing it :D And yesss. I so agree with all of it. I HATE it when music starts when I open a blog.. grrr. No fun, hih. You are awesome. <3

  16. I don't think I do any of these! I hope. D:

  17. I definitely agree with a lot of this. Mostly I just don't understand how some people can be happy with their blog when it is badly formatted (with sidebar issues, etc) and painful from the colors and text they use. It would drive me nuts to preview my posts and have to look at that every time D:

  18. As far as I can tell I'm good to go. Perhaps the part where I make mistakes, seeing I'm Dutch, but I believe it's not that bad. Music and sounds are so annoying. I like to listen to music while blogging, so I don't like it when other blogging sounds interfere with that. I'm also not interested in blogs with only memes/cover reveals/blog tours etc. It's not the content I'm looking for :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, I have more patience with people who are from another country :D Totally agree about the cover reveals etc. It's fine if people want to do them all the time, but it's just not something I want to see! Thanks for your comment!

  19. I would say the blogs I have checked out and turned away from are usually book blogs that are all ads, cover reveals and blog tours, or the one who just post the book jacket and only a tiny blurb of "I like it." I know there are dozens of bloggers who write better than I do,but I try to be more informative than just what you can find on the back of the book.

  20. I totally get this!! TOTALLY. I hate music playing. It freaks my living daylights out, too, especially if my sound is turned up loud and I'm not actually on the tab when it finishes loading (I usually have like 32895 million tabs opened at once.) And I feel like just blog memes as your only content is kind of sucky. It's boring. It's not so original. So I'm 100% with you on that too. *nods*

Thanks for stopping by @ Notebook Sisters!

  21. French Kiss is one of my favourite movies. And those things you mentioned all "Make My Ass Twitch"! ;)

  22. Bahaha, YAAASSS!! French Kiss FOREVER!!

  23. Heehee, yeah, I think the music thing is THE WORST. Like, it actually makes me SO mean. :P

  24. So I thought..... "Hmmm 44 comments, that's awesome!" Then I click on the little envelope and see that half of them are yours, I see that as cheating. I know what you're up to Miss Readingteen!! Stop being so responsive, it makes me not want to read your blog (9th reason).
