Boys are so much better in books. At least according to Merrilee Campbell, fifteen, who thinks real-life chivalry is dead and there’d be nothing more romantic than having a guy woo her like the heroes in classic stories. *DISCLAIMER* Okay let me first start off this review by pointing out something. I am, at the moment of writing this review, a real life seventeen year old girl. This means that when I say that this viewpoint into a more realistic high school teen is so eerily accurate to my own life I think I may have just found my actual self in a book.

@Tiffany Schmidt are you spying on me???

The reason for this disclaimer is because I was reading some reviews online about the book being immature which makes me feel like??? Have you ever MET a teenage girl??? Especially one that reads? Like this girl isn't from a high fantasy where she's had to save the world four times, she is supposed to be a relatively normal girl in her sophomore year of high school going to a co-ed school for the first time. Like I relate to Merrilee so much ("The scenery here is certainly better,... and by 'scenery,' I mean 'guys'.") I actually believe she might be me. Like even her description, like cute but not drop dead gorgeous and completely owning cute like it has never been owned before???? THAT IS ME FOLKS!!! So to say that the book is immature and that it needs to be more mature is asking it to not reflect real life. Even though this book is technically a fantasy, its more of a contemporary retelling overall and so should reflect real life. If you don't like 'immature' books, than don't read books about teenage girls, bye!

Okay not really bye because I have more praise about this here book: 

1.) CHARACTER ARCS 

This is literally the best. Thing. Ever. because not only does it carry an actual good message, it is  also amazing to see how the characters (especially the main character) develop over the course of the story. It's a story about teenagers finding out the difference between a good relationship and a bad one, and also about behavior and figuring yourself out, and figuring out what you want. 

2.) SWOON WORTHY BOOKISH BOYFRIENDS 

Because where would a YA novel be without them? There are so many good ones to choose from! Take Merrilee's best friend and next door neighbor Toby. He is obviously in love with her, and Merrilee knows it. Instead of taking advantage of that, she tells him no, and it'll never happen. And instead of ditching her because she won't go out with him, like many douche bags of every era, he stays with her because he cares about her as a person and not just a girlfriend. 

3.) CLASSIC LIT

There are many classic lit books that make you want to bash your head in, but there are some that have inspired generations since, in a romantic and artistic sense. There are so many references and parallels that are just so much fun to watch play out.
