Cover: This cover is basically perfect for When We Collided. It has so much meaning-- symbolic and otherwise-- to the entire plot and characters. Plus, it's gorgeous, right?
Action: Since this is technically contemporary, action doesn't play the biggest factor in When We Collided, but there are a ton of adrenaline-fueled moments on Vivi's side that will keep you on your toes to the very end.
Romance: LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE. I love it so much that now the word 'love' looks funny to me every time I type it. Vivi and Jonah's romance isn't quite the same as the romances that Lord is known for, but it's so deeply woven and complicated that it makes it even more real, if that makes sense.
Heroine: Vivi is a mess- a complete and total mess. She refuses to take her meds (she doesn't think she needs them, but she hides the fact that she isn't taking them from her mom). She lives life on the edge of her seat, always up for the next random adventure at the spur of a thought. One of my favorite things about Vivi is that she doesn't form judge a book by it's cover, no matter their age, skin color, gender, etc. If you're genuine to her, she returns the favor. I love that she is so completely herself, and doesn't give two craps about what anyone else thinks, but on the other side, I also love that just because that's what she shows on the outside, doesn't necessarily mean that's how she feels on the inside. Like I said, she's a total mess, but aren't we all? It just makes her character that much more real to me.
Hero: Jonah. *le sigh* It's like Emery Lord knows exactly what I want in every single one of my fictional boyfriends. She must've seen my checklist. *becomes suspicious* Anyways, I'm pretty partial to all of Lord's boys, but that's what makes me love them even more. They are all so individually unique and well-rounded that you can't help but fall for them a little (or a lot). Jonah, though, loves to cook, but ever since his dad passed away, he's resorted to spending all of his time filling his shoes by taking care of the family restaurant and his numerous siblings. Living day by day the same way can become a little gray, that is until Vivi bursts into his life, painting vivid colors along the way.
Favorite Supporting Character: Can I just say all of Jonah's siblings? They all have a place in my heart forever. Just saying.
Something I loved: Vivi's artistic talent. Also, Vivi Was Here. Plus, the fact that there is a huge spotlight on mental illness, grief, and stress. More books need that in the YA genre. THE FOOD TOO. *salivates*
Something(s) I hated: Ehh, I can't really think of anything I hated? HOW COULD I HATE AN EMERY LORD BOOK?! For real.
Cliffhanger? Negative.
Would I recommend it? YES YES YES
Did my friends like it? Surprisingly, everyone I've seen has loved it.
Will I buy/keep it/read the sequel? Already did/yes/no sequel but I will forever read Emery's books
