This was the first vampire book I've read in a long long while. Imagine my surprise when I found out it wasn't filled with sparkling vampires.
JUST KIDDING. I have nothing against Twilight.
Caitlin was a great main character and the banter between her and Adrian was constantly on point. I loved how their relationship grew. When the romance finally blossomed, they had been close friends for a while already and I LOVED IT. All the characters in this book were so unique.
The way Temple West described the vampire condition in such a scientific explanation was genius. Not that I understood every word, but the fact that she made it seemingly realistic was absolutely brilliant.
A little back story to my history with vampires. I was utterly terrified of them. When I went to bed, I had to make sure my hair was covering my neck in case one dropped in for a midnight bite. The mere mention of "vampire" had me shaking in my crocs. I even told my friends that if they absolutely felt compelled to say vampire, I would be forever grateful if they said "the v-word" instead. A couple people actually humored me.
But what does that sad part of Natalie's past have to do with Velvet? Well, I crushed on a vampire. Adrian de la Mara (could you have a better last name? No. The answer is no), the main fang-boy in this novel, was the instigator of many MANY swoons. He was viewed as a bad boy because he was aloof due to the fact he wasn't allowed to make human friends, but he was actually so sweet and cute and lovely and, one trait that will resonate with most of us, a nerd.

Really, really love this cover! Total brownie points for a vampire, nerdy, love interest :) Admittedly, I haven't seen too many good reviews for this book, sadly. Many haven't liked Caitlin...but I'm glad you did :) You've totally made me want to read this!

I'm drawn to anything Disney and was curious about The Isle of the Lost as soon as I heard about it! From your review, it sounds like something I would like :) I'll have to get it from the library!! Hope the movie is good too.

It's a short read, so it won't take much time, even for the slowest readers. It is inspired by the Disney movie, but I loved it anyway. Disney is awesome! I hope you enjoy it!
