The Return takes place after the Covenant novels, and follows Seth as he is given an assignment to keep an eye on and bring Josie Bethel – a college student unaware of her bound powers – to safety. While being thrown into a new world and discovering things about her past that she never even knew were possible, Josie must make numerous escapes from a powerful force who is seeking revenge. All the while, the two begin to form a strange bond; and both are aware that nothing good can come from being in a relationship, especially Seth, who is hiding the dark details of his past from Josie.

Once again, Jennifer Armentrout has written a gripping, page-turning read that was near impossible to put down. The plot was well-developed and the character back-stories were extremely detailed, which overall formed an incredibly fun read. The pacing was great, and a scene was never stretched out for longer than necessary.

I loved the inclusion of characters from the Covenant novels (you’ll have to read The Return to find out who!) as well as settings previously visited in these books. Though if you do read this book, I highly suggest reading the Covenant novels first. There were several parts in The Return that referenced events that had occurred in these novels. This book does explain what happened in the series; however, it was a very brief overview. There were vague mentions about Alex, Aiden, etc. but I found it helpful to have previous knowledge on these characters and events before diving into The Return.

There were some points where I couldn’t exactly understand Seth’s feelings (example: whether he liked Josie just because she shared a slight resemblance to Alex) but about halfway through, his thoughts were a bit more clear. Other than this, there is nothing bad I have to say about this novel. The Return left off on a cliffhanger, so I’m excited to see what happens next in the Titan series!
