And now, not only is her reputation on the line, but her very life may hang in the balance.
I had no idea what to expect from this book when Andye gave it to me. I love the cover, but then I'm getting very tired of seeing a girl in a dress. From the very first page, this book starts out fast, with vampires and intense action. From the moment I started reading Something Strange and Deadly I could not put it down. I loved the story, the era, the steampunk aspect, it just all around is a great story.
Eleanor Fitt has been very troubled ever since her brother has gone missing. She and her mother are almost out of money and now her mother wants Eleanor to marry, just so they don't starve to death. Eleanor has a lot of pressure on her shoulders. She thinks The Dead has something to do with her brothers dissapearence. Eleanor seeks help from the Spirit-Hunters, Joseph and Daniel. Daniel and Eleanor have wonderful chemistry from the get go. What I mean is, is that they butt heads and get in each others way. They are frustrated with each other, yet also drawn to each other. While being drawn to Daniel, Eleanor's mother wants her to court Clarence. Clarence is very handsome and very wealthy. So naturally, Eleanor's mother thinks this would be a perfect match. Daniel is poor but Eleanor doesn't care, he is a mind-blowing genius. All of Eleanor's boy troubles doesn't match what is going on with The Dead. Daniel makes cool gadgets to seek and destroy the vampires. While looking for her brother, Eleanor and the Spirit-Hunters get into death defying situations. This book will have you biting your nails for sure.
If you like the Clockwork Series by Cassandra Claire or The Steampunk Chronicles by Kady Cross, then you will most definitely love this book.
