Random.org chose Ally:
ally said...My fave book mother would have to be Esmee Cullen. She's just so supportive and outright maternal even though she doesn't even have kids of her own!

Alannah

And my favorite mother comments go to Brodie and Parajunkee:

(Harry Potter comments are always the way to my heart!)

Brodie said...What I love about my mum - she's young at heart. She's a crazy nut some of the time... in a good way LOL. She sacrifices so much so much for me and asks nothing in return. I love her heart, I love her spirit, I love her smile and I love that I was blessed with her as my mother :)

And my favourite fictional mother is, without a doubt, Molly Weasley. She's the best cook in the world, she's managed to keep her sanity after all these years raising Fred and George, she's lovely, gentle, caring and a TOTAL BADA**. Yeah, don't you know it, Bellatrix!

Parajunkee said...What I love about my mom? My mom is rather crazy also (must be a trend), I love her because she has a very big heart and is very trusting. Which can be bad sometimes because people like to take advantage of that.

But, she works this really tough job, where she sees very bad things all day long (she is a court reporter for the head judge at criminal court - oh and we are the murder capital of the US) but she still manages to be a bit innocent and trusting, where others would get jaded and hateful.

She tells us the funny stories about court, like about how the lawyer would get down on his knees to beg the judge to let his client go. She doesn't dwell on the darker side. I think that is wonderful trait in my mom and I love her for it.

Congratulations!

Amy, Andye, Kit, Abigaile and Austin

  2. I loved it because of the way it was written. It puts you in the mind of the character the entire time. No where else. No other opinions. Well, there are other opinions, but it's hard to explain without explaining it. lol

You just have to read it.

I also loved it because there were points where it literally brought me to tears.

my favorite book so far this year is The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson. It is the story of a girl who is juggling the feelings of her best friend/sister recently dying and falling in love for the first time. The pages just fly by, sometimes making you want to laugh and sometimes making you want to cry. It is a very well written, emotionally charged story, and I LOVED it!

  10. +1 Why I liked it so much: I loved Melinda's attitude - her ironic and sometimes biting thoughts as the novel went along, but what makes me definitely say that this was the best book of 2010 for me is the way she grows and develops into her own voice. She may only be a character in a novel, but I'm proud of her.

    ambience.of.rain {at} gmail.com
    Am a follower.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I loved Soulless because it was:
    1) Funny! I laughed a lot. And it's more of dry-wit humor than anything else, which is my favorite.
    2) Language/Writing style. Absolutely yummy (if I could eat words!). Think Pride & Prejudice language but a little more modern with a dash of playfulness/sarcasm.
    3) Historical. It was set in Britain in the 1800s. Again, perfect! They wear corsets, have parasols & drink tea.
    4) Paranormal. The love interest of our wonderful heroine is a werewolf (I'm a werewolf girl more than a vampire girl anyway). And, of course, one of her best friends is a vampire & she's a preternatural (neutralizes paranormal abilities). So fun & creative!
    5) Last, romance. The romance was fun. A little more typical than the other elements I've listed so far, but that didn't diminish the wonderfulness. The heroine & hero bickered, kissed, bickered some more, there was some misunderstanding & then they sorted out enough. And their personalities work together so well I'm looking forward to the next book, but they're not so "happily ever after" perfect that there's no room for more conflict.

Wonderful book! : ) As you can see, I loved it!

I loved, loved, loved Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver. It made me think about the way that girls handle peer pressure and wanting to find your identity. I enjoyed the book so much that I had to write to Lauren and compliment her on her first novel and how it affected me. She even took the time to write me back. I really do applaude authors that spend the time to communicate with their fans.

I read the book Sweetblood by Pete Hautman several weeks ago and really enjoyed it. It's been out quite a while (since 2004 I think) but I just saw it at my local library this year and decided to give it a try.

    ReplyDelete
  71. +1 Telling why I liked it

Sweetblood was a realistic vampire tale about a diabetic girl named Lucy who says she is part of the Undead. She is such a great character (I laughed out loud several times) and it was really interesting to watch her form and end relationships, go through the daily struggle with diabetes, talk about "real" vampires, and find herself in the end. Fun and moving at the same time.
