I just finished book one in this trilogy, The Hourglass Door, and what a fantastic read! It really took me by surprise. Going into it, I had no idea what to expect. In fact, I thought it would actually be more of a fantasy that took place mostly in the past. However, it was actually a present-day story with glimpses at the past (mostly Dante's) and the promise of more to come. The story focuses on Abby's life, which is a perfectly normal teenage life, until she meets Dante, then everything changes. Throughout the book, different clues are given to us, and Abby, showing us a little at a time what has happened to bring Dante into Abby's life, and what role she will play in his future.I've never read anything like this book. I'm discovering that I really love stories about time travel. I love how all the details fit together, and how you never know what always was, or what can be changed. I find it all fascinating. Most of this book seems like a set up for things to come, the end is a definite cliffhanger. I have a feeling the second book in the series will hold a lot of exciting things. I'm excited to start it!

If I could travel through time, I would not want to go backwards I would go forward, maybe 100 years to see what new things are happening in the world. I've always been a big fan of the WWI era. Obviously, I wouldn't want to have to live through all the war and such, but it was a time where we had some modern conveniences yet it was still old-fashioned enough for life to still be simple.

This series sounds fascinating! If I were to travel back in time, I think I'd like the 1940s. The fashion was amazing & women were actually feminine! I also like the pre-Victorian/Victorian era... 'cause it's just awesome. :)

I would travel into the future and take along all my dystopian novels to use as survival guides...just in case. Honestly, it might be interesting to be back in time for a day or two, but women having few rights, lack of air conditioning, lack of life-saving medication--that would get old fast. I want to see what the future holds. Or I'd like to see what someone from the past thinks about the world today.

I'm going to be totally cheesy here and say I would love to go back to the late 50's early 60's. Growing up, it was just my mom, me and my sis and we were extremely close and I loved our weekends together when my mom would tell us stories of her childhood and growing up. She'd put the music she used to listen to on and we would have a huge dance party in the living room and she'd swing us around and throw us up in the air. To this day, I still love that style of music and would love to go back to that time and see everything she described

ReplyDeleteHmm... I'm going against the grain here and I'm going to say I'd like to travel back to the 1980's. (I was born in '94) I know, I know, not that long ago... But to me, the world has changed a lot since then. I'd like to see how it was when items were less expensive, music was actually GOOD, high pants were the fashion, hair styles were so different, and you could walk in most places alone without worrying about getting mugged. Plus, I've always wanted to play at a real old-school arcade (;

I'm so sad that I missed this giveaway. I actually found your site by looking into whether this series would be appropriate for my 12 year old who is in Jr. High and wants to read the books that a lot of her friends are reading. I finally let her read Twilight books (which I loved by the way) after I told her she had to be willing to discuss some of the more "adult" points in the books. These books sound like they will be ok for her to read. I can't Thank you enough for your sister site that reviews books. I read a lot with my daughter or have read a lot of the books first so I know what she is reading, but especially now that it is summer and she is reading a lot more than me I needed someway of finding out which books I think are age appropriate for her. I especially like your "clean reads," section. I plan on emailing that to her so she has plenty of book ideas to choose from the next time she goes to the library. Thank you, Thank you, Thanks you!
