This book was absolute perfection for me! Addie LaRue meets The Originals (or Interview with a Vampire, or Empire of the Vampire, or whatever dark vampire story you want to insert), and I was completely CONSUMED.

"What grows in the midnight soil is not a different flower, only a bolder bloom."

I knew from the first chapter that this book and I were going to get along splendidly. I absolutely love Schwab's writing and I honestly think this may have been some of the best prose she's crafted. I swear I could've highlighted something in every paragraph. I was absolutely giddy just to feel something so deeply and love something so much so quickly. I honestly didn't even care how the story was going to unfold because I was enjoying the journey so much. Fortunately, the story and the characters were also incredible and I loved every minute of it.

While I was giddy reading it, don't think for one minute this was a light-hearted book. Bury our Bones was an intensely emotional, frustrating, and sometimes uncomfortable story about feminine rage, and the reasons we are so rageful. It doesn't glance away from the way women have been, and continue to be used, abused, mistreated, dismissed, and underestimated, nor does it provide easy answers that leave you feeling cozy. Though you may feel quite satisfied.

I love that the vampires are actual monsters. I love that there were pieces of lore that were familiar, and then other things that were revelations to us, just as they were to the main characters. It gave the story a familiar feel while still providing some interesting and unique variations.I love the way each POV is so distinct. Not ony in voice, which it was, but also in the narrative style itself. The way each story was told used completely different techniques that helped you sink into every viewpoint.

I want to go on and on about this incredible book because I just loved it so much, but I also want you to experience it all on your own without giving anything away. So I will just say, that if you love a character driven exploration of what it's like to be a woman throughout history, and of the moral decay that comes with living life for too long without finding a bigger purpose, you will love this book.

"Live long enough, and things begin to rot. Compassion, affection, humility, care. They drop away like petals, till all that's left is stem and thorn. Hunger, and the urge to hunt."

I know it won't be for everyone, but it was perfect for me.
